Since 8 years old Rachael’s dreams and ambitions were to become a business owner. This traces back to running garden sales in her parents home, getting her first feel of the tasks, skills and execution for a successful event. Any profits made from the events, Rachael would donate to local charities. She didn’t want the profits, she wanted to gain experience and live out her purpose.
During high school Rachael was hospitalised for several years with a stomach condition and there was no hope for her getting better. To get a better education for herself she moved high school and repeated a year, self teaching Business Management at home and in hospital.
After 6 years, Rachael found a cure for her condition and she managed to get into Heriot Watt University, where her passion for business and marketing grew stronger. Rachael graduated in 2019 with a First Class Honours Degree in International Business Management with Marketing, achieving four awards during her time at university.
In 2020, Rachael was offered a marketing job at Coca Cola HQ in London but due to covid, recruitment was on pause and she was unable to join the company.
With a mindset to never give up, and her passion for business and marketing, everything fell into place. One day during lockdown Rachael came up with an idea to found her own marketing brand, Because of Marketing®.
Almost 4 years since founding, Rachael has grown a following of 280,000 marketers where she gives marketing insights, latest campaigns and advice to her community. She has proudly partnered with brands and interviews creators behind the campaigns to shine a light and celebrate the marketing industry.

a. You need to have a business idea which is often identified through a problem you have faced in your life. You often find that the problem founders’ face is a problem many others face too. Once you’ve identified a problem, think on how you’re going to solve it… and that is your business idea.
a. My biggest challenge in building a business has been my time. It’s difficult to be everywhere and do everything. There’s been occasions where my alarm is set for 3am to catch a flight to London for a meeting all day and then fly home again. However, my biggest lesson for managing my time is to outsource work and be smarter.
a. Your role as a marketer in a new startup is to focus on brand awareness. Before the product or service is introduced on the market, you should be building awareness, hype and excitement to your target audience. It’s going to be difficult to launch a business and make a sale when no one knows anything about your business, your story or the problem you’re solving.
a. There are days where I want to give up but there is always this voice inside of me that tells me the tough times will pass and to enjoy this journey. I don’t know a business owner who has never wanted to give up. But it’s our mission, our drive and our purpose that pushes us through.
